Overview
Fishing Line takes place aboard a train moving endlessly across a flooded world. Players fish, recover passing supplies and maintain their travelling home while discovering messages in bottles. Some letters offer self-contained glimpses of lives elsewhere; others invite replies, developing into ongoing conversations and a larger mystery.
Challenge
The design seeks to make a deliberately confined play space compelling over time. Survival systems must create meaningful priorities without conventional open-world traversal, while correspondence needs to feel like a natural part of scavenging rather than an isolated quest system.
Development
Built in Unity around a stationary train with moving scenery, tracks, weather and ocean objects to create the illusion of travel. Development integrates fishing, scavenging, upgrades and a branching bottle-message framework. The Conductor, the train's onboard intelligence, guides and accompanies the player. The full correspondence structure remains in development.
Outcome
An ongoing independent project establishing a distinctive intersection of survival, atmosphere and interactive correspondence. The core systems and narrative direction provide a basis for a longer experience centred on solitude, routine, discovery and choice.
